Akin Gets A Spankin
By admin | August 21, 2012
On Sunday, Senate hopeful Todd Akin of Missouri said one of the most amazingly stupid series of sentences to ever tumble out of an adult man’s mouth:
“First of all, from what I understand from doctors, [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
Akin later apologized on Mike Huckabee’s radio show and said that he had misspoke “one word.” Presumably he is referring to his use of the word “legitimate” instead of Republican-backed “forcible” and not the fact that he spewed medical and biological shit all over the masses.
However, Akin couldn’t apologize fast enough before the GOP heavy hitters jumped down his throat like an eager priest (fuck your sensibilities this is MY blog). Even Mitt Romney and Karl Rove attempted to distance themselves from Akin and the party is turning off the money spigot.
But why was Akin so vehemently reprimanded when so many of his brethren have said equally offensive and awful things regarding rape victims?
Akin was (un?)fortunate enough to be caught on camera at the very, very wrong time. The GOP has been fending off accusations that it is anti-woman, and what better way to prove that they are SO TOTALLY PRO WOMEN, YEAH! then the burnt offering of Akin to the American voters?
Facts, and Akin’s comments, don’t lie though. The GOP has become notoriously anti-woman despite their half ass attempts to prove otherwise.
The GOP has:
-Wrote over 1,100 bills in 2011 limiting women’s access to reproductive choice.
-Wasted millions of dollars in state and federal courts trying to enforce those provisions.
-Tried to legally endorse doctors lieing to pateints about abortion options and safety.
-Mandated trans-vaginal ultrasounds.
-De-funded or restricted funding to Planned Parenthood, which helps women of all economic classes.
-Voted against equal pay.
-Blocked the re-passage of the Violence Against Women Act.
-Selected a vice president nominee who wants to fuck up Medicare (women outlive men by several years, and would be the most affected).
-Not created a single job by limiting women’s rights, but sure have wasted a lot of time and money.
Has the GOP overreacted? You bet your ass! But it’s still not enough to cover up their contempt of women’s rights and freedom.
Can Todd Akin’s campaign shut down the media frenzy if it’s a legitimate frenzy?
